The little things matter. A nice-looking e-Learning tool might employ a half-dozen technologies, from design and video editing apps in the Adobe suite, to SAAS animation programs. Below are some samples of some of the more creative development tools I like to add to my courses as well as some video compositions that use them.
Vector Animation
Created in After Effects. JSON animations are light-weight, visually scalable animations that can add movement to static designs. Applications like Vyond are great, but custom animations emphasize your brand over the program’s. And the tiny file size is great for larger projects that large video files might slow down.
Branded Video
Place your brand’s mark at the start of any video content. Motion Graphics Templates can play over your footage while the audio fades in.
Video Compositions
This video was used to introduce high school students the concept of State placement testing. It uses stock video footage and stills, animated vector graphics, and audio including sound effects, voice, and music.
Animated Video
This 1-minute video clip was created as part of a workplace etiquette series. The animation is created using Vyond. SAAS animation programs like Vyond offer a sophisticated set of tools ranging from captioning to translation.
Video Tutorials
Sometimes you just need to see someone do it. This tutorial was shot with an iPhone and Articulate’s screen recording software, then I edited my footage in Premiere Pro. Vyond animations were used for the title card. The visual edits I use here to draw the learner’s focus about the screen sharply reduce the necessary final product length and simplify the learner’s cognitive load.
Video Editing
I shot the above video on my iPhone while following the Semana Santa processions in Seville, Spain, in 2023. The minute and a half seen here is taken from roughly 3 hours of footage edited in Adobe Premiere Pro.
